Nissan announced new Rear Door Alert technology will be standard in more vehicles, designed to remind drivers to check the back seat for children or other items after shutting off the vehicle.
A news release from Nissan described the technology, saying it will remind the driver to check the back seat and use a series of distinctive honks as the driver walked away from the vehicle.
The technology activates when the back door is opened and closed before a trip, but is not reopened after the driver leaves the car.
The release states Rear Door Alert already comes standard on the Pathfinder, and will become standard on all four-door Nissan models.
The system can be deactivated by the driver.
