(CNN) – The United States has begun withdrawing troops from Afghanistan.

According to a U.S. official, it’s part of the initial drawdown to 8600 required by the U.S.-Taliban Peace Agreement.

There are currently over 12,000 troops there.

If the Taliban meets the conditions of the peace agreement, the remaining U.S. troops are supposed to depart the country within 14 months.
