NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A man suspected of assaulting a pregnant woman is also accused of biting a Metro officer during his arrest Sunday in the Hadley Park area.

Marquise Haynes faces several charges including assault on an officer.

Officers responded to Batavia Street where a pregnant woman who knew Haynes reported he had kicked, punched and strangled her.

The victim was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment of her injuries.

Police said they located the suspect in an alley near the scene and he ran off.

When officers caught up to Haynes, they said they tried to put him in handcuffs and he “violently resisted, kicking and swinging at officers, striking them multiple times.”

“At one point during the assault on officers,” an arrest report states Haynes “bit an officer’s leg, tearing a chunk of his skin out and causing bleeding.”

Haynes is expected in court Wednesday afternoon.
