More big changes are on the way to Cool Springs! A multi-phase pedestrian-friendly plan for the 25-year-old Carothers Building campus will transform the area.
‘East Works District’ is still in planning stages. It’s expected to be a mixed-use development on approximately 50 acres right along the I-65 corridor.
“With redevelopment at East Works over there, it would be an opportunity to have more in a mixed-use, you would have more amenities in that area so that when people are working in office buildings, and living in the for sale condos and townhomes that are going to be built, that they can walk outside and go to the cleaners, or the hair salon, or restaurants and not have to get in their cars again,” said Alderman Bev Burger.
There will be plenty of parking and green space, but a mixed-use development of this caliber will also bring more traffic to that area.
Burger said, “We will definitely have road improvements in that area and yes it’s going to bring more traffic, but how do we handle that traffic? And the better way of handling the cars and vehicles that will be coming in and out of a mixed-use is to make sure that we have the amenities and the facilities there that people really need.”
There is no timeline on the project just yet.
We’re told that one great aspect of the project is that there are a number of reputable, local companies working on East Works, so they know the area, and have a vested interest in it.
