Murder suspect arrested for death of Daniel Shields last July

More than 10 months after the brutal murder of Daniel Shields in West Nashville, Metro police have arrested a suspect.

Gerry Weatherby, 45, has been indicted for 1st-degree murder and especially aggravated kidnapping. He was arrested in Wayne County and was booked into the Metro Jail on Wednesday.

Shields was found dead inside his apartment in the Nations neighborhood last July. Police said his home was bloody and his body was decomposing. His wrists and ankles were bound. An autopsy report said the 30-year-old murder victim died from “multi-modality trauma.”

Shields was a barback at the gay bar Trax in South Nashville. He had many friends who cared about him and talked about him lovingly.

“There’s a lot of people who are hurting right now because Daniel was so good to everyone I just can’t believe it,”  said Mathu Potts.

Investigators have not released a motive for the murder of Shields.
