A man accused of stealing two vehicles and leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase late Friday in Warren County is now in custody.
Howard Eugene Brown was wanted on charges of aggravated assault, evading arrest, reckless endangerment and theft.
According to the Warren County Sheriff’s Office, Brown stole a Honda Accord from a parking lot on Smart Station Road.
“I guess he must’ve hot-wired it,” Casey Crawford, the owner of the stolen car, said. “I was actually shocked because I lived at my house for a whole year and no crime has ever happened there.”
Brown is then accused of leading deputies on a chase in that stolen car, traveling back roads and onto Nashville Highway.
At one point, deputies said the suspect drove the wrong-way at speeds of more than 90 miles per hour, swerving at a lieutenant and missing him by about three feet.
Brown’s erratic driving is why investigators said they ended the pursuit as it entered into McMinnville.
Deputies said they later found a vehicle in a parking lot on Underwood Road that had been stolen from Maury County.
Brown is also the suspect in that car theft.
Information on where Brown was taken into custody was not released.
