OLIVETTE, Mo. (WKRN) – An Ohio mother who was told her child had died shortly after birth was reunited with her daughter 50 years later.
WZVN-TV reported that 76-year-old Zella Price met her daughter, Melanie Gilmore, in person for the first time at Price’s home in Olivette, Missouri.
“There’s nothing greater. There’s nothing greater than this. Nothing,” Price said.
Their separation is one that’s filled with mystery.
According to WZVN-TV, Price gave birth to her daughter at Homer G. Phillips Hospital in St. Louis. Not long after birthing her daughter, Price was told she had passed away.
Gilmore, who lost her hearing when she was three-years-old because of a childhood illness, was still alive and was adopted by another family.
The reunion with her mother is something Gilmore has wanted for a long time.
Her children knew about their mother’s wish, so they used the Internet and the name Gilmore was given by her adoptive parents and tracked down Price.
The mother and daughter are happy to be reunited.
“(God) has given me everything the devil has taken from me,” Price said. “I’m getting it back. I’m getting my baby back.”
