The search for a missing man near the Walter Hill Dam ended tragically Monday afternoon.
Search crews found his body around 1 p.m. Monday,
Police identified him as Floyd Walter Corley, Jr. The 59-year-old was camping over the weekend near the dam.
His family called police after they found his tent and his belongings, but saw no sign of him.
Corley’s sister says she saw him at 3 p.m. Sunday, but when she went back at 6 p.m. to pick him up he was gone.
Search crews from Murfreesboro police and fire were joined by Lascassas Fire, and Rutherford County Fire crews, plus a team from Emergency Management.
Police say they believe the death is accidental, but they continue to investigate to be sure.
Officer Amy Norville warned swimmers not to go into the river alone, and avoid swimming near the dam because there are currents and a strong undertow.
