Metro Roofing employees detain teenager accused of breaking into truck

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) - Employees of a business in North Nashville say they caught a teenager breaking into one of their trucks and held him until officers arrived.

This happened Wednesday night at Metro Roofing and Metal Supply on 16th Avenue North.

According to an arrest affidavit, employees noticed 3 young people "acting suspiciously" on the property and went to check it out. The employees told police they found Demarrea Cotton, 18, in a truck going through the glove box.

When the young people saw the employees, they took off running, according to the affidavit. The employees were able to stop Cotton and another person and walked them back to the office to wait for officers.

Metro police say the unidentified person started wrestling with the employee holding him and was able to get away. Officers say Cotton tried to get away, too, and during the struggle, a gun fell out of his pocket.

The employees were able to hold Cotton until police arrived. They arrested him and charged him with burglary.

Officers are still looking for the other 2 suspects but say all 3 were caught on surveillance camera.
