NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Meals on Wheels needs your help as Mid-Cumberland’s delivery program is hoping to inspire a new generation of volunteers or anyone with a car to help them deliver meals.
News 2 met a mother-daughter volunteer team who has been delivering for years.
Audra and Denise Esker even come bearing food for the families they visit with pets. This is invaluable for some seniors, but in getting to know them, the volunteers said they may get more out of it than the seniors do.
Denise Esker said, “We would talk and he would ask about me and I thought, ‘I am so lucky.'”
“It’s just so rewarding. All of the things that she said about feeling fortunate, about feeling incredibly helpful that’s something that you should look forward to,” said Audra Esker.
The volunteers also said sometimes they are the only friendly faces they see outside of the house all day.
