COTUIT, Mass. (WPRI) – A marine who recently became a father was killed in a head-on collision in Cape Cod last week.
The crash happened late Friday night, right after 32-year-old Kevin Quinn visited his wife and newborn daughter in the hospital. Quinn had plans to bring them home the next day.
Police say he was headed home when he was hit head-on by a car driven by 22-year-old Mickey Rivera.
Rivera crossed the center line, according to police, and hit Quinn with such force that it tore Rivera’s sedan in two. The 22-year-old was killed instantly.
His passenger and Quinn were sent to the hospital, where Quinn was pronounced dead.
Rivera’s passenger has been identified as 24-year-old Jocelyn Goyette. She is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Police say they were in pursuit of Rivera just minutes before the crash. It’s unclear why police were chasing him, but they are now looking into whether that played a role in the crash.
The Boston Globe reports that Quinn’s sister, Danielle, posted a message on Facebook thanking supporters for their love as the family struggled through a difficult time.
Quinn was proud to be a husband and “his girls were his EVERYTHING!” she wrote in the post.
“Please in his memory help us take care of his girls as he was a local business owner and this is an extremely difficult situation. He should be here and was so excited to bring his baby home. I LOVE YOU KEVIN and I will Miss you every day of my life,” she wrote.
Friend Rob Dinan says he just can’t fathom this tragic loss.
“I immediately felt like someone hit me in the head with a sledgehammer. I couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t fathom it. Couldn’t wrap my head around it”
A GoFundMe page has been set up for Quinn’s family with the goal of raising $200,000.
