Man wanted for escaping police in South Carolina arrested in Nashville


A man accused of escaping from law enforcement in South Carolina while in handcuffs was arrested Monday in Nashville.

According to an arrest affidavit, 26-year-old Divine Chavious was wanted out of Aiken, South Carolina.

He had reportedly escaped from the Aiken Police Department after being handcuffed and had additional warrants for Unlawful Carry of a Pistol, Simple Larceny and Possession of Marijuana.

South Carolina Law Enforcement Division contact the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation on January 4 regarding a fugitive tracked to Nashville.

The suspect’s phone had been traced to the Nashville area, investigators said.

Metro Nashville Police Department SWAT and Special Agents from the TBI conducted a search warrant Monday at an apartment on Creekwood Drive where authorities said Chavious was found hiding in a closet with a gun.

Chavious was taken into custody without incident, police said.

He will eventually be transported back to South Carolina.
