Man killed in shooting at Antioch motel

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) - A man died following a shooting at an Antioch motel late Tuesday night.

Metro police were called to the InTown Suites on Murfreesboro Pike around 11:30 p.m.

Arriving officers found a 27-year-old man inside a room with multiple gunshot wounds.

The victim, identified as Dhargham Ateia, was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

According to police, Ateia had just arrived at the motel where he was staying when he was shot.

His brother, who police said was on the second floor, reported hearing yelling and multiple gunshots from the parking lot.

Police said Ateia was convicted 11 days ago for felony possession of marijuana for resale and gun possession during the commission of a drug felony.

He received two-year supervised probated sentences on each of the convictions.

Also at the time of his murder, police said he was free on a $30,000 bond for his arrest last October for misdemeanor drug possession and possession of drug paraphernalia. It was later determined the semi-automatic pistol in the case was stolen.

Police said they are looking closely at Ateia's background as they work to identify the person responsible for the deadly shooting.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 615-74-CRIME.
