Man hit by car while riding Bird scooter in downtown Nashville

Metro police are investigating a crash involving a man who was riding a Bird scooter when he was hit by a car in downtown Nashville Monday morning. 

The crash happened around 7:15 a.m. near the intersection of Fifth Avenue North and Commerce Street.

Metro police reported the man was taken to an area hospital for treatment. The extent of his injuries was not immediately released. 

The driver, who remained on the scene, told News 2 he was taking his son to a nearby school and is concerned about scooter riders darting out into traffic. 

No additional information was immediately released.
