NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A 21-year-old man died after he was shot in the chest and drove his SUV into the side of a building, according to Metro police.

The shooting and wreck happened at the Hickory Manor Apartments on Hamilton Church Road at 11:45 p.m. Saturday.

According to authorities, Johnny Broadnax Jr. was shot near the apartments’ management office and was attempting to flee in the SUV prior to the crash.

Officers responding to a report of shots fired found Broadnax in the grass near the 2002 GMC Envoy, which had struck one of the apartment buildings.

He was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he later died.

Witnesses say they saw a dark gray car with two black racing stripes and tinted windows, possibly a Dodge Charger, drive off after the shooting.

No one inside the apartment building was injured.
