Man critically wounded in shooting south of downtown Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Metro police are investigating after a man was shot south of downtown Nashville Wednesday night.  

A woman on Fairfield Avenue called 911 just before 10:30 p.m. and told dispatchers a man was banging on her door, claiming he had been shot.  

First-responders found the victim on the porch with a gunshot wound to his leg.  

Officers applied a tourniquet to help stop the bleeding. Metro police described his injuries as critical.  

The victim told investigators he was walking on Fairfield Avenue when a man ran up to him and fired two shots, hitting him once in the thigh. 

The suspect ran away in an unknown direction.  

No additional information was immediately released.
