Madison man shot, killed on his way to work; suspects at large

A man was found shot to death in Madison early Tuesday morning. 

The body of 31-year-old Kendall Rice was discovered around 5 a.m. in the 100 block of Alta Loma Road, not far from Gallatin Pike.  

Police said Rice was walking from his home on Crestview Drive to catch the bus on N. Gallatin Road when a dark sedan drove up behind him on Ala Loma Road. 

Officers said a witness reported seeing two black men, who appeared to be in their 30’s and armed with a rifle, shoot Rice and flee the scene. 

Investigators said Rice died at the scene. His personal belongings were also missing. 

Fifteen minutes later, a man was shot at a nearby apartment complex by suspects matching this description. 

Rice worked for Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Parking and transportation services. The hospital released a statement on his tragic death. 

We were shocked and saddened to learn of Mr. Rice’s untimely death. He was a valued member of the Vanderbilt University Medical Center community and our thoughts are with his family at this time, said John Howser, Chief Communications Officer, VUMC.
