Wild weekend means big money in Nashville

Local News

The party is on downtown and Nashville stands to reap the rewards.

A wild weekend ahead will feature SEC basketball and St. Patrick’s Day celebrations.

Take a quick trip down Broadway and you’ll quickly meet fans from across the SEC. But be you a Wildcat or a Volunteer, the real winner this weekend is Nashville.

When Music City last hosted the SEC Men’s basketball tournament, the city took in an estimated $21 Million with more than 190,000 fans visiting, says the Nashville Sports Council.

With St Patrick’s Day now two days away, not all of those visiting are here for BBall.

“No, we’re from Boston,” noted Lauren Kupris, as she and several friends celebrated their 50th birthdays. “We have no idea the SEC’s going on.”

All the fun adds up. In 2017, SEC visitors alone spent an estimated $296 a day, according to the Nashville Sports Council.

It’s the price tourists pay for a Music City memory and a weekend thousands won’t soon forget.
