Vanderbilt University says they are investigating after anti-semitic vandalism in one of their buildings. 

According to the university, a swastika was carved into the back of a classroom chair in Furman Hall. 

The school said the swastika has been removed and Vanderbilt University police are investigating the incident. 

Metro police, the Tennessee Fusion Center, and the FBI were all made aware of the incident, per Vanderbilt’s protocol regarding incidents of hate. 

Chancellor Nicholas S. Zeppos released a statement regarding the incident. 

We wholeheartedly reject anti-Semitism and its symbols, such as the example found on Vanderbilt’s campus today. The abhorrent ideology associated with this act of vandalism has no place here. We are investigating the incident and remain committed to building a safe and inclusive environment for all.
