STEWART COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) – The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred in Stewart County Saturday night.

TBI agents responded to a reported officer-involved shooting in the area of Highway 46 and in the Indian Mound area at around 8:30 p.m.

According to the Stewart County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were responding to reports of a suspicious vehicle in the area of Hayes Ridge Road and discovered the vehicle off Highway 46.

Deputies soon made contact with 43-year-old Billy Joe Reynolds inside the vehicle. Reynolds was reportedly making suicidal comments and was in possession of a firearm.

As deputies waited for specially-trained officers to work to diffuse the situation, Reynolds reportedly fired his gun in the direction of law enforcement, resulting in three deputies returning fire, hitting and killing him.

No law enforcement officers were injured.

No other information was released.
