Silver Alert issued for Overton Co. man now a search and rescue mission

The Silver Alert issued for a missing Overton County man has been upgraded to a search and rescue mission and a missing persons investigation, according to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office. 

According to a release, over 100-200 volunteers and multiple agencies joined in the search for missing 83-year-old Dr. James L. Smith. 

The PCSO says after 46 hours of searching rural area in Overton County, they are now treating the Silver Alert as a search and rescue mission. 

Dr. Smith’s last known whereabouts were at his farm in Overton County. The PCSO helicopter found his 2001 Chevy Duramax four-door pickup truck between Puncheon Creek Lane and Copeland Cove Road Thursday morning.
