Although Monday will be dry, several rounds of possibly heavy rain will affect Middle Tennessee and southern Kentucky this week.  Even Sunday’s rains have already pushed 1-1.5″ rain, so far.

After Sunday, our next round of potential heavy rain will begin Tuesday afternoon and evening (before noon in South Middle TN) and continue through Wednesday as low pressure from the Gulf of Mexico rides up a slow moving cold front.

That first round has the potential for 2-3″ of rain, which will occur over already saturated ground, leading to rapid runoff.

As that front stalls out in southeast Middle Tennessee and north Alabama, additional areas of low pressure will develop along that front bringing off and on rounds of potentially heavy rain into the area through Sunday of next weekend.

You will see different models, and different  rainfall forecast amounts, BUT:

NO MATTER what the actual final rainfall total turns out to be DOES NOT MATTER.  It will be a high amount over saturated ground.

Residents in the mid-state and southern Kentucky should closely monitor the potential for heavy rainfall and flooding this week.
