Saint Thomas nurse practitioner killed in apparent murder-suicide

Local News

Two people were killed in a shooting after an apparent domestic dispute at their Murfreesboro home Wednesday night.

Deputies with the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office reported hearing shots when they responded to a 911 call around 10 p.m. at the home on Annadel Court.

Upon arrival, authorities made contact with 47-year-old Anthony Gaunichaux, who had his wife, 36-year-old Amanda Gaunichaux, and their 2-year-old son inside the home.

Anthony Gaunichaux placed the couple’s son outside the home and deputies cared for him in a patrol car, according to a release.

After placing his son outside, Anthony Gaunichaux went back inside the home, where deputies said they heard the sound of a gunshot.

Upon entering the house, police said they found the couple dead.

Amanda Gaunichaux was a heart nurse practitioner at Saint Thomas Midtown Hospital for eight years.

Late Thursday afternoon, Gaunichaux’s employer released a statement.

This morning we received the tragic news that one of our Saint Thomas Midtown Hospital Heart Nurse Practitioners, Amanda Gaunichaux, was killed last night.  We are shocked and saddened by this news, and our thoughts and prayers are with Amanda’s family.  Amanda worked for Saint Thomas Health for almost eight years at Saint Thomas Midtown Hospital and in the Saint Thomas Heart practice.  Amanda was a hard-working and compassionate nurse practitioner who will be greatly missed.

A GoFundMe account has raised more than $13,000 for the couple’s son.
