RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — It’s no easy task to be ranked among the best high schools in the country, but one Middle Tennessee school did just that.
Central Magnet School in Murfreesboro is no stranger to academic awards. Walk through the front door and you will be greeted with banners and trophies and now they will add one more, as they were recently ranked as the 5th best high school in the country, according the the US News and World Report rankings.
“To be 5th in America is very exciting,” said Central Magnet School Principal Dr. John Ash. “It represents a lot of hard work by a lot of people.”
The rankings are based on a variety of criteria, from graduation rates to college readiness.
“Everything good about schools is the teachers,” said Dr. Ash. “And we have great teachers here. They are so dedicated and beyond the academics. One of the things that people miss here is people don’t get to see how people truly care about the students.”
Dr. Ash said the teachers make sure to go above and beyond the call of duty to get the kids ready for the future.
“They are all really personable and they are all easy to approach,” said junior Landry Wells. “I know if I ever have a problem I am never afraid to go to a teacher and ask for help becasue sometimes you do need help.”
“I know that they love the subjects and I know they want us to excell and you can definitely feel that when you are in the classroom,” said Elijah Calender.
It takes good teachers to educate the students, but it also takes students that are willing to learn.
“It is the students that really make Central what it is. We give them the opportunities to learn we encourage them. We push them. And they rise to the occasion every time.”
Central Magnet School has a 100 percent graduation rate.
