NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Tennessee State University’s (TSU) Aristocrat of Bands — as well as countless other members of the Nashville community — celebrated their Grammy wins Friday afternoon with a parade in Music City.

The group won Best Roots Gospel Album during the Grammy Awards for “The Urban Hymnal”. The album features 10 tracks created on TSU’s campus.

The TSU Aristocrat of Bands was the first collegiate band to receive a Grammy nomination, not to mention to win the award.

In addition, according to the university, TSU Aristocrat of Bands also won the Best Spoken Word Poetry Album category for “The Poet Who Sat By the Door”, which was a collaboration with spoken word artist J. Ivy.

A parade through TSU honored the accomplishment. It began at noon on Friday, Feb. 17, outside TSU’s entrance at 28th Avenue and Jefferson Street and continued to the circle for some remarks from esteemed guests, including school leaders and government officials.
