NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A portion of Interstate 24 was closed early last Friday morning after a man was hit and killed in a hit-and-run crash.

MNPD said the pedestrian has been identified as Aaron Brooks, 33, of Nashville. According to Metro Nashville Police, Brooks attempted to cross the eastbound lanes of the interstate. He reportedly crossed the grassy median, then tried to cross I-24 East at the I-65 South split. During the process, police said he was struck by a black SUV that initially pulled over.

Authorities reported others stopped to render aid, and the SUV then sped off. MNPD said they believe Brooks was hit at least two other times, possibly three.

The last person to strike the victim allegedly did so because she was trying to avoid those rendering aid. The woman, police said, stopped and talked to officers. She was released from the scene.
