NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — An 18-year-old is facing felony assault charges after police say he shot a man during a boxing match in Bellevue.

On Saturday, officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Old Hickory Boulevard just after 10 p.m. in response to a shooting call.

Once on scene, officers located a male victim with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. The man was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where it was discovered that surgery would be needed to treat the injury.

While investigating, an affidavit states officers learned that the suspect, 18-year-old Quantel Williams, resided at the Grande View apartments on Sonya Drive.

Courts records show officers went to the Williams’ apartment and asked him what led to the shooting. Williams allegedly told officers he shot the victim while they were boxing.

According to Williams, during the boxing match, the victim mentioned throwing headshots. Williams states that’s when he told the victim that he wanted to stop boxing, but the victim did not stop.

An affidavit says Williams told officers he then grabbed his belongings to leave the scene while the victim continued to box him. That’s when Willaims told officers “he blacked out”, pulled out a gun from his pocket and shot the victim.

When officers asked Williams what he did with the gun he used to shoot the victim with, he replied that he “threw it in the woods behind the apartment building.”
