Authorities said the call initially went out as a crash at the intersection of East Thompson Lane and Lawndale Drive.
Metro police reported Jason Andrew Norfleet, 40, was driving a 1995 GMC pickup truck at a high rate of speed on Thompson Lane when the rear passenger side struck a concrete barrier as it negotiated a bend in the road.

The truck hit the barrier several more times until it came to rest in the intersection, according to Metro police. Norfleet died at the scene.
Responding medics noticed injuries to Norfleet’s body that concerned them. However, those injuries were subsequently determined to have been older from some previous occurrence. The medical examiner at autopsy found no gunshot wounds and determined that Norfleet’s injuries today were consistent with a vehicle crash, according to a release.
