NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Just days after a man was shot and killed in East Nashville, the suspect in the case has turned himself in.

James Alex Harris, 52, surrendered himself to the Metro Nashville Police Department on Wednesday, March 15, officials said.

He was wanted in connection with the deadly shooting of Terrese Patterson, 47, inside an East Nashville home on Monday, March 13.

According to an affidavit, officers responded to a shooting call in the 1000 block of Lischey Avenue at approximately 3:52 a.m. When they arrived at the scene, they found Patterson in an upstairs bedroom with a gunshot wound to the chest

The court document said Patterson was brought to the Vanderbilt emergency room, but he died from his injuries after arriving at the hospital.

Witnesses at the scene reported Harris and Patterson were hanging out and listening to music in an upstairs bedroom, but then the witnesses heard arguing, followed by a gunshot, according to the affidavit.

Not only were Harris and Patterson the only people in that room, but Harris allegedly ran out the front door of the home after the shooting, witnesses said.

Officials said Harris is now jailed on a criminal homicide charge.

Authorities have not announced if a motive has been determined in the shooting.
