NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Two men are accused of ramming two police vehicles with a stolen car at an apartment complex on Brick Church Pike Wednesday.

According to an arrest affidavit, two undercover officers noticed a stolen silver Hyundai Sonata that had been stolen from an apartment complex on Hamilton Church Road on Sept. 29.

Officers saw 22-year-old Jamontez Howse approach the car and get into the driver’s seat while Deontay Staten, 19, got into the passenger seat. As they drove away, the undercover officers followed them.

The pair ended up returning to the apartment complex where Howse got out of the car and Staten got behind the wheel. Officers then moved in and took Howse into custody.

Staten, however, drove the Hyundai into two police cars, got out and ran from the scene; he was arrested after a brief chase. Officers also found a Glock semi-automatic pistol that was loaded with 27 rounds and equipped with an aftermarket switch that made the gun fully automatic. Police also searched the Hyundai and found another semi-automatic pistol loaded with nine rounds, along with two digital scales and baggies holding 30 grams of cocaine, according to investigators.

Staten was previously arrested after fleeing from officers in Davidson County and leading them on a pursuit into Kentucky. Howse was arrested in 2020 and accused of carjacking with reported ties to a major car theft and burglary operation.

At the time of his arrest Wednesday, Howse was free on $42,000 bond stemming from his arrest on July 6 on charges of felony theft and felony evading arrest. He is also accused of stealing thousands of dollars in merchandise from the Ulta store in Bellevue, according to police.

He was also free on a $30,000 bond stemming from his arrest on Aug. 23 on a felony theft charge. In this incident, he is accused of clearing a path for his girlfriend to run out of the Gus Meyer store in Green Hills with a purse valued at over $5,500, police said.

Both Howse and Staten were booked into the Metro jail with 24 charges between them.
