NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Metro police have identified the pedestrian who was killed in a crash on Interstate 65 in East Nashville late Saturday night.
The crash happened at 11 p.m. in the northbound lanes of Interstate 65 near the East Trinity Lane exit. According to Metro police, a driver of a semi-truck reportedly saw a vehicle that belonged to Mary Murphy, 60, broke down in the middle of the interstate and attempted to swerve into the next lane to avoid a collision.
Officers say the semi’s attempt to avoid a collision was unsuccessful and Murphy was struck. Metro police reported that as the semi changed back into the original lane, that’s when Murphy’s body was discovered in the middle of the interstate.
The driver of the semi-truck remained on scene after the collision and officials believe Murphy was struck by multiple vehicles prior to getting hit by the semi-truck. According to Metro police, Murphy was pronounced dead at the scene.
The northbound lanes of Interstate 65 were closed as officers worked at the scene, but it has since reopened. No signs of impairment were found at the scene.
