Nashville Marine killed in Arizona helicopter crash

The U.S. Marine Corps in Yuma, Arizona has confirmed the identity of two Marines killed in a helicopter crash. 

According to a release, Captain Travis W. Brannon, 30, of Nashville, was a pilot stationed in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. He was in Arizona attending a Weapons and Tactics Instructor course 2-19. 

Brannon previously participated in Marine Rotational Force Darwin in Australia. He has service medals, including the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon. 

The other Marine killed in the crash was identified as 34-year-old Maj. Matthew Wiegand, a native of Ambler, Pennsylvania. 

The AH-1Z Viper crashed Saturday night while the pilots were conducting a training mission as part of a weapons and tactical instructor course, according to the Marine Corps. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
