NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Murfreesboro police reported a 3-year-old girl was hit by an SUV in Rutherford County after the child reportedly ran into traffic on Old Fort Parkway Thursday morning.
The crash happened on Old Fort Parkway near New Salem Highway. Police say it appears the girl was able to cross the eastbound lanes of traffic and was hit in the westbound lane just after 7 a.m. She was rushed to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital and is in stable condition.
Police are currently investigating how the girl ended up in traffic unattended. The case has also been sent to the Department of Children Services.
MPD said no charges are expected to be filed against the driver of the SUV.
For a period of time, the westbound lanes of Old Fort Parkway near New Salem Highway were closed Thursday morning. The roadway has since reopened.
Police say due to the circumstances surrounding the accident, it’s being investigated by members of the Fatal Accident Crash Team (F.A.C.T.) and detectives from the police department’s Criminal Investigations Division.
The investigation is ongoing.
