A man accused of stealing a law enforcement cruiser after being spotted near a Wilson County school was taken into custody twice Wednesday morning.
Wilson County Schools spokeswoman Jennifer Johnson told News 2 the man was spotted in the woods near Wilson Central High School around 10:30 a.m. and was believed to be armed with a gun.
A School Resource Officer responded to the scene and the man was apprehended.
Once in custody, Johnson said the man somehow created a diversion and was able to steal the law enforcement cruiser.
The man fled in the cruiser and crashed along Interstate 840 where he was taken into custody for a second time.
His name has not yet been released.
It is exam week, so Johnson said about 200 students were at the school.
She said no students were ever in danger.
Wilson Central High School and Gladeville Elementary were placed on a soft lockdown as a precaution.
Parents have been notified of the incident.
