Softball players from around Middle Tennessee – ages 8-18 – stepped up to the plate to help establish a scholarship in the name of Sgt. Daniel Baker.

Baker was violently gunned down May 30 while on the job in Dickson County, leaving behind a wife and young daughter.

48 teams gathered at Ridley Sports Complex in Columbia Saturday on the one month anniversary of Baker’s death.

The total amount raised was not yet released, but the money will be used to establish the Daniel Baker memorial scholarship.

Messages of love and remembrance were scattered throughout the complex – on dugouts, helmets and signs.

Sgt Baker graduated from Columbia Central High School in 2004.

The fundraiser made $5,000 and the money will be given out in May 2019 to a graduating Dickson County Senior.
