Houston Co. H.S. football player who suffered spinal injury celebrates 18th birthday

A Houston County high school football player who was injured back in August received well wishes Friday for his birthday.  

Jefferey Cox turned 18 Friday and was greeted with gifts and well wishes from thousands on the “Jefferey’s Strong Journey” Facebook page.  

“As I sit here and realize I have an 18-year-old son today I want to thank God! Did we expect to be in a rehab facility on his 18th birthday….no. However, I thank God he allowed us to be able to celebrate more birthdays!!!!” said Jefferey’s mom in one of the Facebook posts to her son.  

Meanwhile, people at Jefferey’s school made sure he felt the love and support for his birthday. Faculty, staff, and students at Houston County High School also made a video tribute to Jefferey for his special day.  

The newly minted 18-year-old even received a special birthday box from the Tennessee Titans.  

Jefferey Cox was injured during a scrimmage at Jo Byrns High School on Aug. 3. The Houston County Football club told News 2 at the time that Cox underwent neck surgery.  

According to the Facebook page, Jefferey sustained injuries to his spinal cord at the C1 and C2 vertebrae levels.  

Jefferey’s journey continues his journey at the Shephard Center in Atlanta, Georgia.
