Henry County man accused in rape of minors, dragging dog to death

Local News

A Henry County man has been arrested on allegations he used drugs to force underage girls into sex, plus he’s accused of dragging a dog down the road to its death.

Jared Payton, 29, has been charged with five counts of aggravated rape and one count of rape, reckless endangerment and animal cruelty.

In a joint investigation with the Paris Police Department, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office said it received reports that Payton had been “coercing juvenile girls into sexual contact by the use of illegal narcotics.”

During the course of the investigation, deputies said they discovered Payton shot one of the juvenile girls with a BB gun to further force her into sexual contact.

Payton was also charged in a separate investigation where the Sheriff’s Office was alerted to a man pulling a dog down the road by the neck.

Deputies said Payton told them he found the dog on the side of the road after it was hit by a car and while the dog was still alive, he hooked a rope to the animal’s neck, connected it to his car and dragged the dog down the road.

The dog did not survive.

Payton’s bond was set at $350,000 and he will appear in court Thursday.
