Family of shooting victim files lawsuit against Waffle House suspect and his father

Local News

Another family who lost a child in the Waffle House shooting is suing.

DeEbony Groves, 21, was just one of the four people killed in the shooting on Apr. 22, 2017. The lawsuit was filed by Grove’s mother. She’s asking for $100 Million and a jury trial.

The lawsuit claims Travis Reinking shot and killed DeEbony Groves with a gun he wasn’t supposed to have and that his dad, Jeffrey Reinking, should have kept his son’s weapons away from him.

The lawsuit holds both Travis and Jeffrey Reinking responsible for Groves’ death.

Travis Reinking faces four murder charges related to last year’s mass shooting. His father also faces a criminal charge in his home state of Illinois after returning the weapons to his son.

The District Attorney in Tazewell County, Illinois says Jeffrey broke the law when he returned Travis’ guns back to him.
