Metro police and the Nashville Fire Department responded to a reported death at TriStar Centennial Medical Center Wednesday.
The body was reported to be in an elevator shaft in a construction zone at the hospital located at 2300 Patterson Street around 11:15 a.m.
Police have identified the body as 26-year-old Daniel Jones.
According to a release, Jones was helping a welder in the newly constructed elevator shaft on the 10th floor when he was struck by the elevator’s pulley/counterweight system.
Police said the welder heard a noise, raised his face shield and saw that Jones had been hurt.
The Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development has been made aware of the death.
