Baby Joe’s grandparents speak out at vigil for their grandson

A vigil was held for Baby Joe Saturday night at his family’s church in Dickson County. His grandparents attended and spoke out at the service, which was held at Hillview Baptist Church.

“It’s been hard, real hard, knowing it’s been this long,” said Belle Daniels, Baby Joe’s grandma.”I thought we’d find him before this long.”

April 4 marked one year since anyone saw Joe Clyde Daniels. At the time, law enforcement treated the disappearance of Baby Joe as a missing person’s case.

Three days later, the child’s father was arrested and charged with his murder. Then, his mother was arrested.

Baby Joe’s body has not been found. His family is holding out hope that he’s out there, somewhere, alive.

“We wish we knew what happened,” said Joe Daniels, Baby Joe’s grandpa. “Really we do. We do know he’s not here.”

At the vigil, his grandparents, family, and friends lit candles and said a prayer. While Baby Joe’s family is thankful for the support, they wish they didn’t have to be here in the first place.

“That’s right I wish I wasn’t here tonight because of this,” said Joe Daniels. “If he was here, he’d be home watching the ball game with me.”

Joseph and Krystal Daniels are set to go on trial next year.
