PUTNAM COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — One person was killed and another injured in a crash on Interstate 40 in Putnam County early Friday morning.
The crash happened in the eastbound lanes around 3 a.m. near mile marker 302.
According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the deadly crash involved multiple vehicles. A 2020 Kia Sorento driven by 31-year-old Viram Dangar of New Jersey was traveling west on I-40 when the car traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck the guardrail.
Dangar’s car then traveled across both lanes and into the median, emerging in the eastbound lanes striking a 2013 Mack tractor-trailer. The trailer from the truck dislodged and rolled into the ditch off the right side of the interstate. Dangar’s car came to a stop on impact facing the median and the truck came to a stop on the shoulder.
The passenger in Dangar’s vehicle. 30-year-old Harshang Jiyavia of Virginia was injured in the crash. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.
The roadway has since reopened. THP said no citations or charges have been filed and alcohol/drug tests have been requested.
