Argument over birthday party leads to murder-suicide in Mt. Juliet

WILSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) - A Mt. Juliet woman was reportedly shot and killed by her husband, who police said then killed himself hours later Wednesday.

Jessica Adams was shot in the stomach around 3 p.m. at a home near Gwin Place and Quarry Road.

The Wilson County Sheriff's Office said Jessica Adams took her two children to the home and met with their father, Thomas Adams, to discuss a birthday party.

When the two began to argue, Jessica Adams took the children inside the home and went back out to continue speaking with Thomas Adams, said Lieutenant Scott Moore with the Wilson County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators believe Thomas Adams shot his wife in the stomach before running off into a wooded area near the home.

She was taken to an area hospital where she later died from her injuries. A GoFundMe account has been established to help her family with funeral expenses.

K-9 officers, detectives and a Tennessee Highway Patrol helicopter searched for Thomas Adams for over six hours before he was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Residents were asked to remain alert and lock their doors during the search for Thomas Adams.

This is the third murder-suicide in Middle Tennessee in the last month. The state-wide domestic abuse help line is 1-800-356-6767.
