Gallatin police are searching for a teenager who ran away from Volunteer Youth Academy.

Police say 15-year-old Dylan Ray Regenold was last seen by staff on Thursday night when he went to bed.

Sometime before 7 a.m. Friday, Dylan pried a window open and used a bed sheet to escape from the second floor.

Authorities say he could possibly have gone to the Franklin area.

In a message to News 2, Regenold’s mother said her son has suffered from mental illness for years.

“It’s has been a devastating battle for our entire family. We have been fighting for his life for years. Actively seeking help for him since he was seven-years-old. This was not a case of parents who are too weak to care for their child. We had to make the very difficult choice of trying to get him the help he needed while keeping the other children in our home safe,” she said.

Volunteer Youth Academy is a residential treatment center for adolescent males who suffer with behavioral, emotional or mental health issues.

If anyone has seen Regenold, they are asked to contact the Gallatin Police Department at 615-452-1313.
