LEBANON, Tenn. (WKRN) – A suspect wanted in connection with a shooting in Lebanon was arrested after a pursuit ended on I-40 westbound in Hermitage.
The Lebanon Police Department says officers were dispatched to Wilson Avenue after gunfire was reported in the area. Area schools were also placed on lockdown as a precaution, but all lockdowns have since been lifted.
A neighbor told News 2 that he had just left moments before the shooting happened and was shocked to hear what happened, especially since a similar incident happened just months before.
“It’s been probably six months since the first time, and just out of the blue. I had just talked to the guy that got shot seven minutes before this happened so it’s really close to home,” said a man who did not want to be identified.
Just before 2:30 p.m., police reported one person was shot and killed. The suspect vehicle was described as a silver Nissan Altima or Chevy Mailbu, heading westbound on the bypass.
“Right now, it looks like an isolated incident between their two folks. It seems like they were familiar with each other,” explained Lt. P.J. Hardy with the Lebanon Police Department. “There were multiple gunshots. We believe at this point only one shooter from one weapon.”

More details provided by Lebanon police say license plate recognition cameras (LPR) were able to identify the suspect vehicle. The vehicle was then seen near South Maple Street. When officers tried to stop the car, it fled and got onto I-40 westbound.
The suspect, identified as 20-year-old Laquentin Raymond Hearn, lost control of the car just before 5 p.m., causing the car to flip and crash on I-40 at Old Hickory Boulevard in Hermitage.
Investigators spent hours collecting evidence at the scene of the shooting. Although neighbors say this is the second shooting on Wilson Avenue within the last six months, police are reminding the public of how safe the city is.
“Anytime you have more than one incident within a close proximity of one another you may have thoughts that it might be an unsafe neighborhood. […] but for the most part, I think we are keeping things in check, this is just yet another isolated, it’s indicative of this neighborhood or our community as a whole,” explained Lt. Hardy.
Hearn was arrested after a brief foot chase and has been charged with criminal homicide.
