Lawrence County Sheriff, Captain indicted on official misconduct charges

News

Lawrence County Sheriff Jimmy Brown and Captain Adam Brewer were both arrested and indicted Thursday.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury conducted a joint investigation into the men.

According to a release from the TBI, the investigation revealed from 2015 through 2017, Brown allowed inmates to be used by various county employees at their personal residence and for personal business.

The investigation also revealed that Brown used his position as sheriff to release some inmates from jail without paying their court ordered bond, according to the TBI.

TBI investigators said Brewer falsified time sheets and misled investigators as to the accuracy of the reported hours worked at the department.

Jimmy Brown was charged with two counts of official misconduct, one count of use of inmate labor for personal gain, and one count of tampering with evidence.

Adam Brewer was charged with one count of official misconduct.

Both were booked into the Lawrence County Jail. Brown’s bond was set at $25,000 and Brewer’s was set at $5,000.
