Two people were sent to the hospital after being shot by a Knox County deputy who was trying to serve several arrest warrants Friday afternoon.

Knox County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Kimberly Glenn says a deputy was at the Kroger on Cedar Bluff Road to serve warrants that included aggravated burglary, domestic assault and others.

Glenn says the suspect rammed the deputy’s cruiser, pinning him between two vehicles. The officer fired shots, hitting both the suspect and a passenger.

A short pursuit ensued that ended on the ramp to Interstate 40.

Both the suspect and passenger were taken to UT Medical Center for what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

The officer is also being taken to the hospital to be checked out.

Names have not been released.
