A 29-year-old woman and her young son were killed in a house fire in Kentucky Monday morning.
Fire crews arrived at the mobile home on Stephens Road just before 7 a.m.
A 27-year-old man and two-year-old girl were able to escape the fire. He said the fire was too intense for him to re-enter.
He was taken to a local hospital for his injuries before being airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. He was last listed in stable condition. The little girl was treated on the scene by EMS and was released to her grandfather.
Amber Girkant and her 8-month-old son, Nathaniel Vinson, were unable to escape the burning mobile home. An autopsy revealed they both died of smoke inhalation.
The fire remains under investigation.
