Tennessee SNAP recipients will soon begin to feel the effects of the government shutdown.
Due to the shutdown, the USDA deadline for recipients who are renewing benefits or filing a six-month Simplified Report form must turn in required documents by the end of business on Jan. 14.
Tennessee DHS says meeting this deadline is crucial to making sure February benefits are available to those who qualify during the shutdown.
DHS says February SNAP benefits were made available this week when the USDA provided states with the option to issue benefits early.
While recipients would typically see their benefits hit their EBT cards anywhere from the first of the month to the 20th, the benefits are expected to arrive on or before Jan. 20 for all recipients.
TDHS says these are the only benefits recipients should expect until at least March.
