Good Samaritan killed in crash on I-24 in Coffee County

COFFEE COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) – A Good Samaritan was killed in a crash on Interstate 24 in Coffee County Thursday morning.

It happened just before 10 a.m. in the eastbound lanes between Manchester and Monteagle.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol said 44-year-old Tracey Hullender was driving a 2000 Saturn coupe when she slowed down to assist a motorist in the median.

The driver of a semi truck, David Wright, was unable to stop and rear-ended Hullender’s car.

The car went off the roadway, killing Hullender and injuring her 20-year-old passenger, Craig Hullender Jr. The extent of his injuries was not immediately known.

Wright, 48, was uninjured. According to the crash report, he was not drinking or under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash.

The report also indicates criminal charges are pending.
