Franklin police search for possibly armed suspect

Franklin police are searching for a possibly armed suspect who fled from a stolen car early Monday morning.

The suspect ran from a stolen vehicle on Downs Boulevard, according to Franklin police.

Officers are searching the New Hope Academy area for the suspect. They are working with school officials to ensure the safety of students.

Franklin Police say events unfolded after a special anti-crime unit tried to stop a suspicious vehicle on Downs Blvd. One person in the car pointed a gun at police before the driver crashed into a field near New Hope Academy. Three suspects ran from the car.

That’s where police captured one suspect who was armed with two handguns.

A second suspect was found hiding in a shed behind the school.

A third suspect, who may have a gun, is still on the loose. More officers arrived to scour the area. They searched inside the school before students arrived and officers remain at the school Monday.

The two suspects in custody are described as a 17-year-old boy and an 18-year-old girl, both from Nashville.

Residents are advised to:

  • Citizens are urged not to leave their vehicles running and unattended, as this suspect may be in the area and on foot, and looking for a way to further flee the area.
  • Keep your car doors, home, and outbuildings locked as you go about your activities, while an area search for the suspect continues.
